Technical Questions

  • Is the Trike suitable for my disability / weight / size?

The Trike is suitable for anyone who can propel a normal manual wheelchair. Many people find it easier to push the levers than standard wheelchair hand rims.

However currently good finger function is required in order to operate the brake levers, we hope to address this soon with a ‘Tetra version’, that won’t need finger function for the brakes!

Good hand co-ordination is also required for the steering.

The designed maximum weight of a rider should not exceed 100 kg and the seat width is fixed at 17 inches.

  • Is it suitable for my child?

The Trike is designed for an adult’s size but is adjustable for different leg and arm lengths.

The Trike is very easy to use and if your child is able to propel a normal wheelchair then the Trike should be easy for them to manoeuvre. The key dimension to consider is ‘arm reach’ for the drive levers.

An arm length of roughly 45cm (measured from top of shoulder to tips of fingers with arm outstretched forwards) should make using the Trike comfortable.

The adjustability of the Trike will allow it to ‘grow’ with any young rider.

  • What colours are available?

Any colour you like! (But crazy mad colours might cost a little extra). Our paint shop are usually able to match any colour and can offer candy, metallic and gloss finishes included in the price. Have a look at our gallery on facebook for some colour inspiration.

  • Is the Trike foldable and easy to transport?

The Trike does not quickly come apart for transport but does fold to a rough cube with the measurements 74cm (W) x 82cm (L) x 73cm (H)

The total weight is 20kg and can fit in the back of most cars.

If space is even more limited, the drive units and front wheels can be removed as one self-contained item. This requires a 5mm allen key and some technical confidence but does not take too long.

  • Is the Trike suitable for someone with the use of only one hand?

On flat even ground our current model can be steering in a straight line or left and right with only one hand!

However it would be difficult to ride over uneven ground or up hills with only a single hand.  We are currently working on addressing this and hope to launch a future adaptation that will allow full one armed riding in 2013.
